Elizabeth Harvey, MA, LMHC
Coach and Consultant
Experience and Qualifications
I have a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling and practice as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in New Mexico. Learn more about my separate psychotherapy practice here: Elizabeth Harvey Counseling. Areas of specialized training and expertise for me in counseling include grief, trauma, incorporating nature in therapy, and our relationships with animal companions. I frequently incorporate a narrative therapy approach in counseling.
Studying languages and literature in college gave me a special appreciation for the power of story and for creative narrative structures. Our lives may take on their own creative structures, but we also have power to shape and find meaning in the narrative.
Reading and providing input on drafts of fiction and non-fiction works by colleagues and friends has been a highlight for me in recent years. The privilege of witnessing someone’s creative process always leaves me in awe and supporting those producing original work is very meaningful work.
In my own life and in my work as a counselor, time and time again I have seen the power of the creative process for healing. This is something we can all embrace in our lives in a variety of ways.
Past professional roles for me include bringing order to the schedule and daily activities of a United States Senator; guiding communities and institutions through the federal funding process as US Senate staff; serving as a senior budget expert and policy consultant in the national security community; and keeping tabs on federal and state government affairs for a Fortune 100 company.
I’ve been through some major life transitions of my own, including a career change from government to the helping professions, many moves cross-country and locally, and finding a new path forward after divorce.
All of these experiences have brought with them challenges, lessons, and the opportunity to adapt and find a way to thrive again. I draw on this journey to help you find your own strengths on the way through the significant changes and challenges you may be facing.
I would love to hear your story and partner with you on your path towards wholeness, living in harmony with yourself and others, and moving forward with the work that makes you come alive.
